Your questions answered
Frequently asked questions about A.A.
How much does it cost to attend an AA meeting? +
There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership: We are self-supporting through our own contributions. Every group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions.
Is A.A. a religion? +
A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. It is open to people of all beliefs or none.
Do I have to give my real name? +
Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of our program, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities. In meetings we usually use first names only.
How do I know if I am an alcoholic? +
Only you can decide. The only requirement for A.A. membership is a desire to stop drinking: If you have that desire, you are welcome here.
Do I need an appointment or registration to attend? +
No. You can come directly to any meeting during the published times, with no appointment or paperwork. We keep no attendance records or case histories.
Do I have to speak at my first meeting? +
No. You can just listen. Many people attend their first meetings without saying anything, until they feel comfortable.
Are there online meetings as well? +
Yes. In addition to in-person meetings in Lomas de Chapultepec, we hold meetings by Zoom. See the Meetings page for schedules.
Looking to help someone?
When it is a loved one who needs help
Often the person seeking information is not the one drinking, but a worried relative or friend. If that is your case, we are here to help too: On the Contact page you will find our information, and we can explain how the group works and how your loved one can come closer, always respecting their process and anonymity.
